Monsoon Asia Integrated Research for Sustainability - Future Earth (MAIRS-FE) is a regional consortium for the integrated study of social and earth system processes in the Asia Monsoon Region. It is one of the core projects under the framework of Future Earth. Priority research areas for the MAIRS-FE include: Water, energy and food nexus; Human health in monsoon Asia; Resilience to climate-related natural disasters; and Observation & Modeling.
Twenty representatives of Scientific Steering Committee, Advisory Committee, working groups and Future Earth partners participated in the MAIRS-FE Scientific Steering Committee 2019 Annual Meeting, shared the progress on research activities and future plans for research and capacity building in the fields of water-energy-food nexus, environmental health, natural disasters, models and observations.
Future Earth Secretariat, represented by Dr. Ria Lambino of the Future Earth Asia Centre and Dr. Smriti Basnett of the South Asia Regional Office, introduced Future Earth's recent initiatives at global and regional scales and emphasized that stronger collaboration in Asia is needed in order to identify regional agenda to be linked globally.
The conference has facilitated collaborative dialogues among the researchers and Future Earth partners and it identified priority items for the Working Groups of MAIRS-FE for their research, exchange and capacity building activities.
Monsoon Asia Integrated Research for Sustainability - Future Earth is guided by a Scientific Steering Committee and supported by an International Program Office (IPO) hosted by the Peking University, China and a Regional Program Office (RPO) hosted by the Indian Institute of Science, India.
